A significant fire is raging at a business park in Bergen op Zoom, prompting the fire department to issue an NL-Alert shortly after midnight due to the heavy smoke. Residents near Kruisakkers are advised to avoid the smoke, keep windows and doors closed, and turn off ventilation systems.
According to Omroep Brabant, no one was present in the building when the fire started. The fire broke out at a wholesale building materials company, but the cause remains unknown.
The flames have spread particularly in the office and warehouse areas, as reported by the Midden- en West-Brabant Safety Region. The fire service escalated the response to a very large fire due to its spread to the rear of the building.
A major fire also occurred on Christmas Day at an adjacent property, according to the regional broadcaster.
