Large fire releases asbestos in Waalwijk

A major fire has broken out in a warehouse in Waalwijk, releasing asbestos, according to the Midden- and West-Brabant Safety Region. Residents in the area have been advised via an NL-Alert to close windows and doors and turn off mechanical ventilation systems.

The fire is producing large plumes of smoke. The building, formerly housing the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum, was vacant.

The fire’s cause remains unknown. The fire department is using substantial equipment to control the blaze, which is being exacerbated by strong winds.
