Fire in West-Terschelling destroys home, no injuries reported

A major fire broke out late last night in a house in West-Terschelling. Firefighters from the mainland were called in to assist the Terschelling fire brigade.

All occupants managed to evacuate the building safely, and nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. By around 1:00 AM, the fire was nearly extinguished, preventing damage to a nearby transmission tower and garage.

However, the house was declared a total loss. The fire department initially dispatched units at 10:00 PM, and an NL-Alert advised residents to close windows and doors.

Additional firefighters, transported by boats from the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM), were deployed, but extra fire trucks from Harlingen were not needed. The NL-Alert has been withdrawn, but the cause of the fire remains unknown.
