Zwolle Station to Get Sustainable New Entrance

Zwolle station is set for significant renovations, with construction of a new entrance beginning in two years. The entrance on the city side will be replaced by a circular structure resembling a lantern, according to the Dutch Railways (NS).

Additionally, more platform roofs will be added. Danou Veenhof, regional director at ProRail, describes the new entrance as a major improvement, providing “a beautiful place for travelers and the city,” as reported by RTV Oost.

Alderman Gerdien Rots notes the current entrance lacks clear city access, stating the new space will enhance access and offer a welcoming area to relax. The renovation will utilize sustainable materials, such as wood, with a focus on reusing materials from the existing entrance.

Architect Jan Nauta explains that the design allows for future reuse of construction materials. Solar panels will be installed on the entrance and platform roofs.

The project is slated for completion by 2030, with a budget of around twenty million euros. Previous upgrades included a pedestrian tunnel, a bike tunnel, and the relocation of the bus station.
