WWII Collaborators List Now Available Online

A new online register listing names of individuals who collaborated with or were suspected of collaborating with occupiers during World War II is now available. This allows descendants and researchers to request files for viewing at the National Archives.

Rinke Smedinga is among those accessing these files. His father, Piet Smedinga, was an officer at Westerbork camp during the war.

Rinke already read his father’s dossier after his death in 2001 but has now reviewed documents about his father’s friend, Klaas Carel Faber, described as a notorious war criminal. Rinke hopes to uncover more about his father’s life and silence regarding certain events.
