WWII Bomb Discovered During Dresden Bridge Demolition

During demolition work on a bridge in Dresden, a World War II bomb was discovered. Authorities plan to defuse it on-site, prompting the evacuation of a large area this morning.

Approximately ten thousand residents, workers, and tourists are required to leave the vicinity. The evacuation zone, with a radius of about one kilometer, includes fourteen schools, nine childcare facilities, and several nursing homes.

The 250-kilogram bomb is located near the Carola Bridge, which partially collapsed last September without causing any casualties. The bridge, built in the 1970s, connects the northern part of the city to the center.

The bomb was found yesterday morning during dredging operations. Authorities have evacuated a relatively large area due to the bomb being exposed, which increases the potential impact of an explosion.
