A wildfire has erupted in the Los Angeles area of California, approximately 90 kilometers north of the city, near Castaic Lake. The fire began this morning local time and is spreading rapidly.
By early afternoon, around 20 square kilometers were already ablaze. Authorities have ordered 19,000 people to evacuate, and an additional 16,000 have been warned of a potential evacuation.
A major highway has been closed due to poor visibility. Los Angeles has been facing severe wildfires for weeks, exacerbated by dry conditions and strong winds.
Since fires ignited earlier this month, at least 28 people have died, and thousands of structures have been destroyed or damaged. The fires remain not fully contained.
