A large wildfire is raging in Pacific Palisades, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. According to Governor Newson, several homes have been destroyed, and thousands of residents have been evacuated.
Pacific Palisades, known for its celebrity residents, is situated in the hills of Los Angeles. The fire started around 10:30 AM local time and quickly spread due to strong winds, now covering over 700 hectares.
The Governor has warned that conditions may worsen as winds are expected to reach over 160 kilometers per hour tonight. Residents had to evacuate abruptly, leaving cars behind and fleeing on foot, causing traffic jams.
Abandoned vehicles are being removed by bulldozers to clear the way for emergency services. Local resident Kelsey Trainor told the Associated Press that there was panic, with people leaving cars with their dogs, babies, and bags, crying and screaming.
The road was blocked for an hour. Southern California has experienced minimal rainfall for over six months, and wildfires also occurred in the Los Angeles area last November.
