A 32-year-old man from Hilversum has been arrested by police for his alleged involvement in the riots in Amsterdam last month. He is suspected of complicity in public violence and group insult related to the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv match.
The man reportedly shared information about acts of violence in a WhatsApp group with hundreds of members. He is scheduled to appear before the examining magistrate today.
The police are investigating not only the violent acts but also the backgrounds and possible causes. The Public Prosecution Service in Amsterdam has summoned seven suspects aged 19 to 32 to appear in court next week.
Additionally, six other individuals have already been presented before the court for their involvement in the disturbances around the match and a subsequent incident at Plein ’40-’45.
