Archaeological treasures from Romania were stolen during a burglary at the Drents Museum in Assen last night, according to the Public Prosecutor’s statement at a press conference. The museum experienced a significant explosion around 3:45 AM, which shattered windows and damaged nearby buildings.
The museum was hosting a major archaeological exhibition about the ancient Dacian kingdom, displaying over fifty gold and silver artifacts. This exhibition, called “Dacia: Land of Gold and Silver,” was scheduled to end this weekend.
The Drents Museum collaborated with the National History Museum in Romania for this exhibition. Police are investigating the theft and urging witnesses to come forward.
The museum will remain closed throughout the weekend.
