Uzbekistani arrested over Russian general’s assassination

Russia has detained a person from Uzbekistan in connection with the assassination of Russian General Igor Kirillov, according to the Russian security services. The suspect allegedly planted the bomb that killed Kirillov under orders from the Ukrainian security service, as reported by the BBC.

A second suspect has also reportedly been detained, sources told the Russian newspaper Kommersant. Authorities were able to identify the suspects’ vehicles using surveillance cameras at the crime scene, according to Russian media.

There is no official confirmation yet. General Kirillov was killed yesterday morning in a bombing in Moscow.

Evidence suggests Ukraine is behind the assassination. The bomb was hidden in an electric scooter parked at the entrance of an apartment complex.

The explosion that killed General Kirillov is visible in dashcam footage.
