Utrecht University lifts USC sanctions, restores funding

Utrecht University and the Hogeschool Utrecht have lifted the sanctions imposed on the Utrecht Student Corps (USC) last year, following the creation and distribution of a list ranking women based on sexual performance. The USC will now receive subsidies again and is welcome at official events from September.

In March of the previous year, the “grietenlijst” was made public, leading the USC to suspend the responsible members for up to 1.5 years, although they retained their membership. The institutions had halted funding and required a cultural change plan, which has shown progress according to recent monitoring.

Consequently, the institutions have decided to resume subsidies from the next academic year, and since January 1st, the USC has been eligible for activity subsidies. Wilma Scholte op Reimer, Chair of the Board at Hogeschool Utrecht, expressed appreciation for USC’s efforts and emphasized the ongoing need for dialogue beyond 2025.
