The New York police are investigating the shooting of UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson, who was killed outside a hotel in the early hours. Investigators discovered bullet casings at the scene with words like “delay,” “deny,” and “depose” inscribed on them, which might refer to criticisms of the insurer’s claim processing practices.
Thompson had received multiple online threats recently, according to his wife. The police believe the attack was premeditated and carried out by an experienced shooter, as evidenced by the use of a silencer.
The suspect, wearing a dark hoodie and gray backpack, fled into Central Park on a bicycle, and authorities are using drones, dogs, and security footage in their search. A $10,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest.
UnitedHealthcare, a major player in the national Medicare program, canceled its investor conference following the incident.
