FNV Personeel has issued an ultimatum demanding the current leadership of the union step down by Thursday. The union staff has lost confidence in the board’s ability to lead effectively.
This comes ahead of the union chair elections in early March. Reports from Trouw and de Volkskrant indicated that vice-chair Zakaria Boufangacha felt obstructed by current chair Tuur Elzinga from pursuing the chair position.
Boufangacha, who was investigated for alleged misconduct, claims the accusations are “completely fabricated” and asserts that Elzinga and other board members are aware of this, yet failed to address the allegations. FNV Personeel is concerned about the handling of internal procedures and integrity investigations, describing the situation as “governance chaos.” According to Judith Westhoek of FNV Personeel, the only solution is a complete reset.
The ultimatum was decided during an emergency meeting today and will require approval from FNV Personeel’s broader membership. The FNV board spokesperson stated they are awaiting the outcome of this member approval.
If the board does not resign, union staff may take action, including the possibility of striking.
