A significant Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire at a chemical plant in the Russian city of Engels, located over 630 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Local authorities report heavy smoke and the closure of schools in the area, including in the nearby large city of Saratov.
There have been no reported injuries. Ukrainian officials stated that a “massive attack” targeted Russian oil refineries, storage facilities, and weapons factories in Engels, as well as in Bryansk, Kazan, Saratov, and Tula.
Ukrainian media claim that the infrastructure of the Russian airbase in Engels was targeted in a ‘multi-day, comprehensive operation.’ Russian Telegram channels and pro-Russian bloggers reported a large-scale drone assault by Ukraine on Russian regions, including the firing of American ATACMS missiles. It is claimed that Russia shot down over 200 drones and five missiles, although the Russian Ministry of Defense has not released any statements.
The governor of the Saratov region confirmed that the cities of Saratov and Engels were hit by a massive drone attack, damaging two industrial sites. A source from the Ukrainian secret service mentioned significant fires at a chemical plant and an oil refinery, along with damage to another chemical factory.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Air Force reported downing 58 Russian drones overnight, out of a total of 80, across eleven different regions, with 21 others reportedly disappearing from radar.
