Two Iranian Supreme Court Judges Shot Dead in Tehran

Two judges from the Supreme Court were shot dead at a Tehran courthouse. Another judge and a bodyguard were injured, according to Iranian state media.

The alleged perpetrator then killed himself. Unconfirmed reports suggest the assailant worked in the courthouse kitchen and was not a suspect in any case.

The judges were involved in prosecuting national security crimes, espionage, and terrorism, according to Iranian media. They were also known for imposing severe sentences on activists in recent years and were reportedly involved in the 1988 mass execution of dissidents.

One of the judges had previously been targeted in an attack in 1999. Iranian state media describe the incident as an act of terrorism.
