Two fatalities during New Year’s celebrations in the Netherlands

A 46-year-old man who was injured on New Year’s Eve in Tiel has succumbed to his injuries. Tiel’s municipality confirmed to Omroep Gelderland that the man from Buren has passed away.

After the incident, he was airlifted to a hospital. The exact circumstances are unclear, and the police are investigating, considering the possibility of an “unfortunate accident.” This marks the second fatality during this New Year’s period.

On New Year’s Eve, a 14-year-old boy from Rotterdam died after detonating illegal fireworks. The incident involved a shell, a type of heavy firework that is prohibited for private use.

Several youths were severely injured, and the Eye Hospital in Rotterdam reported an increase in young patients with injuries.
