Donald Trump’s intention to appoint former TV presenter Kari Lake as the director of Voice of America is causing concern among the broadcaster’s staff. Journalists, speaking anonymously to CNN, express apprehension about this scenario.
Trump wishes for Lake to lead the U.S. international broadcaster but cannot appoint her directly. Lake, who was a news anchor at Fox for nearly thirty years, left the network amid controversy over misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.
She then entered politics representing the Republicans and became one of Trump’s favorites. On Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, he states that Lake will “broadcast American values of freedom honestly and accurately” at Voice of America, contrasting with what he calls “lies spread by fake news media.”
