Trump’s Greenland Interest and Panama Remarks Stir Controversy

President Trump has expressed renewed interest in purchasing Greenland from Denmark, an initiative he previously pursued during his first term in office (2017-2021) but abandoned after Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen declined the proposal. Recently, Trump announced the new U.S. ambassador to Denmark, emphasizing the strategic and security importance of Greenland due to its resources and geopolitical position as the Arctic becomes more accessible.

Greenland, while self-governing, remains under Danish jurisdiction. Premier Egede of Greenland dismissed Trump’s attempt, stating, “Greenland is ours.

We are not for sale and never will be.”
