Former President Trump signed an executive order attempting to delay the ban on TikTok, instructing the Justice Department not to enforce the ban for 75 days. This move aims to provide TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, more time to find a U.S. buyer to allow continued operation in the U.S. However, experts, including legal expert Ryan Goodman, argue that the decision is legally invalid as the deadline to delay was missed.
TikTok temporarily went offline in the U.S. before Trump announced his decision, and while American users regained access, the app remains unavailable for download. Apple and Google face potential fines if they restore the app to their stores, presenting significant financial risks.
ByteDance has consistently stated TikTok is not for sale.
