Donald Trump has been given an ‘unconditional release’ in the hush money case against him. Although previously found guilty, this completes his sentencing.
An ‘unconditional release’ means he receives no jail time or fines, but he retains a criminal record. Trump is the first U.S. president to be convicted in a criminal case.
He did not attend the court in person, participating via video link from his Mar-a-Lago estate, and described the proceedings as a “political witch hunt.” His lawyer stated that Trump’s legal team plans to appeal. The case involves a payment of $130,000 to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016, following their encounter a decade prior.
While paying hush money is not illegal, Trump recorded it as ‘legal expenses,’ which the jury found unlawful.
