Trump Announces $500 Billion AI Initiative

On his first full day as president, Donald Trump announced a collaboration between OpenAI, Softbank, and Oracle. Over the next four years, they will invest at least $500 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) in the United States.

The joint venture, called Stargate, aims to create a computing infrastructure to support AI. Large data centers and power plants are required, initially to be built in the state of Texas.

Trump stated that Stargate would generate 100,000 jobs, calling it “the largest AI infrastructure project ever.” Oracle founder Larry Ellison mentioned at the press conference that expansion to other locations is already being considered. He noted that the project could enhance healthcare by analyzing patient data and assisting doctors.

With this announcement, the new president intends to demonstrate economic growth under his leadership. It was anticipated that the United States would seek significant investments in data centers.

Last October, American investor Blackstone projected that $1 trillion would be invested over five years. For OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the joint announcement with Trump is seen as a success, as he has been at odds with Elon Musk, his co-founder at OpenAI.

Musk, a close confidant of Trump, started his own AI company, xAI, in 2023.
