Traffic on the A7 between Joure and Heerenveen was disrupted this evening due to a truck carrying cows catching fire. During a rescue attempt, the cattle ended up on the highway, leading to its temporary closure.
One lane in both directions is now open. The fire started at around 8:00 PM at the front of the truck, for reasons still unknown.
By the time firefighters arrived, two cows had already been removed from the vehicle, and two more were rescued by the firefighters. While the fire was being extinguished, alternative transport for the cattle was arranged, and the animals continued their journey unharmed as far as is known.
The disruption on the A7 is expected to continue until after midnight.
