Tilburg University is advised to cease collaboration with Israeli universities, according to a report by a committee of four professors. The university initiated the review following pro-Palestinian student protests.
The committee recommends halting student and staff exchanges with Israel. Michiel Bot, a lecturer at Tilburg and member of Dutch Scholars for Palestine, expressed support for this unprecedented advice, citing human rights concerns.
The committee’s five-month investigation highlighted the ties between Israeli universities and the military, raising moral questions. They also noted warnings from international courts about potential crimes in Gaza.
Despite the recommendation to end exchanges, the committee suggests keeping the option open to host Israeli academics. The university will review the advice before making a decision.
