The grave of French far-right politician Jean-Marie Le Pen has been vandalized by unknown individuals, according to a report by his daughter Marie-Caroline Le Pen on X. French authorities are investigating the incident, noting that the cemetery was under police protection before and after the funeral on January 11 due to the site’s political sensitivity. Security had been reduced since then, but police will resume surveillance due to the “exceptional nature” of the vandalism.
Le Pen, who passed away on January 7 at the age of 96, was laid to rest in a family grave in a port city in Brittany. His daughter expressed outrage on X, stating that those who attack the deceased are capable of the worst against the living.
Granddaughter Marion MarĂ©chal also expressed anger, vowing to fight back harder across generations. The French Interior Minister condemned the act, calling it “an absolute disgrace.” Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder of the far-right political party Front National, was known for his extreme views, blaming Muslims for France’s issues and minimizing the Holocaust.
He was repeatedly convicted for antisemitism, discrimination, and incitement to violence.
