In the first meeting following the deadly explosion in the Tarwekamp area, The Hague’s local government discussed the aftermath, according to Omroep West. Mayor Jan van Zanen praised the community’s solidarity and support for victims through donations and crowdfunding initiatives.
The explosion, which resulted in six fatalities early on a Saturday morning, was not initially on the agenda for the Board Committee meeting, but the mayor provided an update. Nineteen households remain displaced; most are housed in hotels, with three housing associations offering temporary accommodation shortly.
Continuous support is provided to victims, including assistance with insurance, practical needs, and psychological help. Communication has been established with business owners affected by the incident.
While no new details on the explosion’s cause were shared, the arrest of three suspects through police efforts was noted as positive progress. A ban remains in place, restricting access to the area until Friday at 9:00 AM.
A moment of silence was observed by the Provincial Council of South Holland, with Commissioner Wouter Kolff expressing sympathy for the victims and gratitude for the emergency services’ efforts.
