Tensions rise between France and Algeria over influencer

Disagreement has arisen between France and Algeria regarding an Algerian-origin influencer residing in France. The 59-year-old, Boualem N., with approximately 168,000 TikTok followers, was arrested in Montpellier this week after a call for violence.

He posted a TikTok video urging punishment and assault against an opponent of the Algerian government. In recent weeks, more individuals in France have been detained for similar messages, including two Algerian influencers in Grenoble and Brest.

A female TikToker in Lyon was also arrested, suspected of making death threats against opponents of the Algerian government. These influencers view critics of the government as traitors to be silenced.
