Teen Rescued from Bus Accident Remains in Critical Condition

The 15-year-old girl rescued from a bus accident near Zwartewaal on Thursday was found buried under mud, according to a spokesperson for the Veiligheidsregio Rotterdam-Rijnmond, as reported by AD. She is still in critical condition at the hospital.

The regional bus collided with a car on a provincial road, ending up in a ditch. Emergency services struggled to extricate passengers as the bus tilted at a 45-degree angle.

Firefighters broke a window to enter. Initially, eight people were rescued; four had minor injuries, including students from a Brielle secondary school.

Rescuers continued to search, as one passenger indicated a girl sitting in front was still missing. Near the driver’s seat, a significant layer of mud forced rescuers to dig by hand, eventually finding the girl.

She was urgently taken to the hospital and placed in an induced coma. The school’s principal confirmed she remains in intensive care.

The cause of the collision remains unclear, and police are investigating.
