The Syrian rebel leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has reached an agreement with leaders of other resistance movements to collaborate within the new Ministry of Defense. According to a statement, the rebel leaders agreed to dissolve their groups and integrate them into the ministry.
Interim Prime Minister Mohammed al-Bashir aims to restructure the Ministry of Defense with the help of leaders from various resistance groups that fought against the ousted dictator Assad in recent years. Syria has numerous resistance movements.
HTS, al-Sharaa’s group, recently managed to rapidly take control of large areas of the country, expelling Assad from Syria. The new leaders now face the task of uniting the various groups, which often have differing ideologies.
Murhaf Abu Qasra, a prominent HTS member and key figure in the uprising against Assad, has been appointed as the Minister of Defense in the new interim government.
