The pretrial detention of a 24-year-old man suspected of killing three people in the Rotterdam district of IJsselmonde has been extended by two weeks. Sendric S. was arrested on January 2 in a residence within the district.
During the raid, a firearm was found, which may be the weapon used in the murders. Between December 21 and January 2, three older men, aged 63, 58, and 81, were shot dead.
The shootings caused fear among residents of Rotterdam-IJsselmonde. Once it was clear that the victims might have been chosen at random, police urged people to be extra cautious and avoid going out alone.
Sendric S. is suspected of three counts of murder or manslaughter and possession of a firearm. His motive remains unknown.
S. is under restrictions and is only allowed to contact his lawyer. Previously, another suspect from Amsterdam was arrested in connection with the case and is also still in custody.
