Suspect in Vroomshoop fire accused of causing fatal explosion

The man arrested after the fatal house fire in Vroomshoop, Overijssel, is suspected of “deliberately causing an explosion and fire, resulting in death,” according to the Public Prosecution Service. The fire, which occurred last Saturday, resulted in two fatalities.

It broke out around 8:00 PM in a terraced house, claiming the lives of a man and a woman, as well as three dogs. The suspect was detained the same night.

The suspect from Ridderkerk was presented to the examining magistrate today and will remain in custody for an additional fourteen days, as reported by regional broadcaster Oost. The decision on whether to extend the pre-trial detention will be reassessed later.
