Suspect in Magdeburg Attack Identified as Saudi-born Doctor

Twelve hours after the attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, the motive of the perpetrator remains unclear. Police believe there were no accomplices involved.

A search in the city center for a second vehicle linked to the attack yielded no results. The attacker drove a black BMW X5 into the market’s crowd around 7:00 p.m., resulting in the death of an adult and a child, while over sixty people were injured, some severely.

The suspect, a 50-year-old doctor from Bernburg, has been arrested. He is originally from Saudi Arabia and moved to Germany in 2006, gaining refugee status in 2016.

Reports from Der Spiegel identify him as Taleb Al Abdulmohsen, who has expressed opposition to Islam and migration policies. He has been vocal on social media against Islamic practices and is reportedly associated with the right-wing AfD party.

Police are expected to release more information later today.
