Police have arrested a 27-year-old suspect in connection with a stabbing that resulted in the death of a 76-year-old woman from Den Dolder. The suspect is a patient at Fivoor, a psychiatric clinic in the same village.
Bystanders alerted emergency services yesterday afternoon when they found the victim lying on the street. Initially, it was thought she had collapsed, but she was found to have been stabbed and died at the scene.
The incident occurred on Duivenhorst, near the clinic’s premises. Police initiated an investigation and released a description of the potential perpetrator.
Clinic staff recognized the description as one of their patients and notified the police. The suspect was arrested this morning and is being questioned.
A spokesperson for the clinic told RTV Utrecht that the patient had not escaped, emphasizing that patients in the suspect’s ward have various freedoms, such as supervised leave or the ability to go outside independently. The clinic did not provide details on the conditions under which the stabbing occurred.
Clinic staff expressed their shock over the potential involvement of a patient in the incident, stating, “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies. We also think of all our neighbors, for whom this event must be a great shock.”
