Suriname police investigate Desi Bouterse’s death

The Surinamese police are questioning several individuals as part of the investigation into the death of Desi Bouterse, according to Inspector Kensmil speaking to NOS. The investigation focuses on who was responsible for transporting Bouterse’s body.

“We want to understand how he was moved from an unknown location to his home in Paramaribo,” Kensmil stated. “It is also important for us to know how the body was transported and where and when he died.” The police have not disclosed much more about the case.

“The situation remains somewhat the same as when we discovered the body. We still have no information about his health prior to his death, and I cannot provide further details to avoid affecting the investigation’s progress.

I also do not have permission to do so,” Kensmil added. Bouterse’s body is currently held in a police mortuary, where it will remain until the pathological examination is complete.
