Strong Winds in the Netherlands: Code Yellow Issued

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a code yellow warning for strong gusts across the country. These winds pose challenges for traffic, particularly for cyclists, trucks, and cars with trailers.

There is also a risk of incidents due to falling tree branches. According to the weather bureau Weeronline, winds reached force 9 in IJmuiden between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

Hoek van Holland recorded the strongest gust so far at 108 kilometers per hour. NOS weather presenter Willemijn Hoebert noted that wind gusts will decrease from the southwest, but will persist on the Wadden Islands until late in the evening.

She also highlighted the temperature differences: currently 11 degrees Celsius in Groningen and 5.6 degrees in Hoek van Holland. The French weather service has named the storm Floriane, marking the second storm of the year in the Netherlands.
