State Secretary Jansen (PVV) for Public Transport aims to find a swift solution to prevent the NS from bypassing Maarheeze station. The station faces disturbances from asylum seekers from the nearby Budel asylum center.
The NS is considering skipping the station due to threats and occasional attacks on staff. Jansen expressed regret over the situation and plans to consult with the Minister of Asylum and Migration and the Minister of Justice and Security to address the issue.
He is committed to stopping the disturbances and ensuring safe working and travel conditions, stating he won’t allow trains to stop bypassing Maarheeze. Jansen did not confirm whether the government would cover the 2.3 million euros requested by the NS for security measures, emphasizing discussions on cost-sharing.
Approximately 1,200 passengers use the station daily, with 2,700 incidents reported last year, a high number for a station of Maarheeze’s size, according to an NS spokesperson.
