The state funeral for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was held in Washington at the National Cathedral. The service was attended by hundreds, including current President Joe Biden and former Presidents Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.
Biden delivered a eulogy, praising Carter for his forward-thinking nature and recalling their close relationship. Before the ceremony, Carter’s casket was transported from the Capitol, where it lay in state for two days, allowing tens of thousands to pay their respects.
Known for his dedication to peace, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. After the service, Carter’s body was taken to Plains, Georgia, where he grew up and continued to reside.
Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100, served as the 39th U.S. president from 1977 to 1981. His presidency was marked by economic challenges, the signing of peace accords between Israel and Egypt, and the Iranian hostage crisis.
