South Korean Parliament Votes to Impeach Interim President

The South Korean parliament has voted to impeach interim President Han Duck-soo. The opposition accuses him of hindering the trial against his ousted predecessor, Yoon Suk-yeol.

Out of 300 members, 192 voted in favor of his impeachment. Han has refused to accept his dismissal and plans to appeal to the constitutional court.

Han became interim president after the parliament impeached Yoon following an attempted coup. On December 3, Yoon declared a state of emergency to try to sideline the parliament but later reversed the measure amid widespread protests.
