The opposition in South Korea is making another attempt to impeach President Yoon. Last week’s effort failed due to a boycott by the ruling PPP party members.
Yesterday, the main opposition, the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), submitted a new motion, aiming for a vote tomorrow afternoon. The success of this motion depends on the attendance of enough parliament members.
To pass the impeachment procedure, two-thirds of the parliament must agree. South Korea’s National Assembly has 300 seats, requiring at least 200 members to be present.
The opposition holds a majority with 192 seats, needing at least eight PPP members to proceed with the vote. South Korean media report that seven PPP members have pledged to support the motion, leaving one more needed.
