A week after South Korea lifted its military emergency, political tensions remain high. The police have searched President Yoon’s office in Seoul, as well as police offices, according to Yonhap news agency.
Yoon was reportedly not present during the raid. Further details about the search are not yet available.
Former Defense Minister Kim, allegedly involved in declaring the emergency, attempted suicide in prison but survived and is in stable condition according to Yonhap sources. Kim, considered a key figure in the emergency announcement, had resigned and was arrested last weekend.
South Korean politics continue to grapple with the fallout from Yoon’s unexpected decision last week. The parliamentary speaker has announced an inquiry to investigate Yoon’s declaration of the military emergency.
This may include a public hearing involving Yoon himself. On Saturday, a vote on Yoon’s impeachment did not pass, but at the opposition’s request, another vote may occur today.
