Adil, a son of Ridouan Taghi, has reportedly been arrested in the United Arab Emirates, according to De Telegraaf. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service could not confirm the arrest.
If detained, it was not at the request of the Netherlands, suggesting it might have been initiated by another country or through an independent investigation by the UAE. Adil is suspected of money laundering and involvement in a criminal organization.
He is also implicated in Dutch and Belgian investigations concerning underworld violence related to a stolen cocaine shipment. Both countries may request his extradition, as Belgium has had an extradition treaty with the UAE since 2021 and the Netherlands since 2023.
Earlier this week, another criminal figure linked to Antwerp’s drug scene was arrested in the UAE on Belgium’s request. Previously, another son of Taghi, Faissal, was arrested in Dubai on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.
Faissal is currently held in a high-security facility in the Netherlands, where his father is also detained.
