Sixth victim found in The Hague building collapse

Rescue workers have discovered a sixth victim in the rubble of the apartment building in The Hague that collapsed on Saturday following an explosion, according to the Haaglanden Safety Region. A spokesperson stated that searches are ongoing at Tarwekamp and emphasized the search will continue “until we are certain no more victims are under the debris.” Police have identified four of the six deceased: a 45-year-old man, a 17-year-old girl, a 41-year-old woman from The Hague, and a 31-year-old man from Voorburg.

Identification is challenging due to a prolonged fire, prompting the Disaster Identification Team to use DNA and dental records at Schiphol Airport. Additionally, four people were injured, with two in critical condition.

At a press conference, police said they could not yet determine the explosion’s cause, but are considering foul play. Investigations include a car seen speeding away after the explosion, and witnesses are urged to come forward with potential surveillance footage.
