President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone claims he is unaware of who Jos L. is. The Dutch drug criminal appears in a video recorded by Bio’s wife.
The West African nation is initiating an investigation into the Netherlands’ most wanted criminal. ‘Bolle Jos’ is seen in a video of a New Year’s mass in Bio’s hometown; the president and his wife are seated two rows ahead.
Reuters, citing three anonymous sources, reports that the Dutchman is next to a woman believed to be the president’s daughter, with unconfirmed reports suggesting they are married. The Information Ministry stated that President Bio is unaware of the individual’s identity, emphasizing his presence at numerous public events during the holidays where recordings were made.
The government claims no communication with any country about L., but police pledge cooperation with Interpol and Dutch authorities. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service recently disclosed L.’s presence in Sierra Leone.
It’s unclear if extradition has been requested, as there is no extradition treaty between the countries. Jos L. was sentenced in absentia last year to 24 years for drug trafficking and ordering murders.
A €200,000 reward is offered for information leading to his arrest. He has been in Sierra Leone since 2023, a key hub in international cocaine trade.
Despite abundant resources, Sierra Leone ranks among the world’s poorest nations, plagued by widespread corruption.
