Secretary Criticizes KLM for Recruiting Military Pilots

State Secretary Tuinman of Defence has called for KLM to cease recruiting military pilots. According to Tuinman, about half of the pilots have transitioned to KLM and its subsidiary Transavia in recent years.

KLM’s CEO, Marjan Rintel, is summoned for a meeting with the state secretary today. Tuinman stated on the television program Goedemorgen Nederland that he possesses F-35s, which he claims are the primary deterrent against Putin, and emphasized the necessity of having pilots to operate them.

He mentioned that pilots are being lured with salaries several thousand euros higher than those offered by the military. “We have a shared responsibility to protect what is dear to us.

The last thing you want is a conflict driven solely by financial motives,” Tuinman remarked. The aviation sector is experiencing significant pilot shortages, partly due to an aging workforce.

While pilot training programs are full, the shortage is not expected to be resolved in the short term.
