Search for Tibetan Earthquake Survivors Halted

The search for survivors of the severe earthquake in Tibet has been halted, according to Chinese authorities. Efforts are now focused on assisting those affected in the region.

The earthquake damaged at least 27,000 homes, leaving approximately 45,000 people homeless, as reported by Chinese authorities. These individuals are being accommodated in shelters where tents have been set up for them.

Additionally, rescue workers have begun constructing around 1,000 prefabricated, heated homes sent to the area by China. Yesterday, it was reported that rescue services saved 400 people trapped under debris following the quake.

The likelihood of finding more survivors is low, as nighttime temperatures in the area drop to -18 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the Tingri region, near the base of Mount Everest, was struck by an earthquake measuring 7.1 in magnitude.

The quake resulted in 126 deaths and 188 injuries, with 91 individuals still hospitalized. The number of missing persons remains unknown.

Since Tuesday, at least 500 aftershocks have been registered in the area.
