The 15-year-old girl who opened fire at her school in Wisconsin two days ago carried two handguns, using only one. Police Chief Barnes told AP that the attack resulted in two fatalities and six injuries.
The source of the firearms remains unknown, and Barnes declined to disclose who purchased them. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain why the student targeted her Christian school, where a 14-year-old student and a 42-year-old teacher were killed.
Two students remain critically injured in the hospital. Authorities are uncertain if the attack was premeditated or if specific individuals were targeted.
The girl’s parents are cooperating with the investigation, though it is undecided if they will face charges. School shootings are frequent in the United States, with 326 incidents reported this year, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database.
It is notable that a female perpetrator is involved, as this occurs in only 3% of cases.
