In the U.S. state of Wisconsin, a 15-year-old girl opened fire in a classroom, killing a teacher and a fellow student. Another teacher and five students were injured.
She then took her own life. Two students are in critical condition.
The classroom in Madison was being used as a study space yesterday morning for multiple groups. The student who called emergency services was 7 or 8 years old.
“Let that sink in,” said the police commander during the press briefing. Students at this school regularly train for such situations.
When it became clear there was a shooting, all doors were locked. School shootings are common in the United States, with 322 incidents this year and 349 last year.
In 3 percent of these cases, a girl is the shooter. The motive of this girl is unknown, and it is unclear how she obtained the weapon.
Her parents are cooperating with the investigation, according to the police.
