A trial at the Jordan Montessori Lyceum in Zeist, where parents could not view their children’s grades through the Magister app, has been successful. The app, used by students to check schedules, grades, and report absences, was modified for two months.
Stijn Uittenbogaard, the experiment’s initiator, noted that students felt performance pressure from parental oversight. Feedback from parents and students was mostly positive, with students appreciating the ability to discuss grades at their discretion.
Some parents expressed dissatisfaction, wanting control over when to check grades. Despite this, many parents did not use the app or felt no need to view grades.
Uittenbogaard suggests other schools consider removing grade visibility from Magister.
