Ryanair is taking legal action against a passenger for significantly disrupting a flight from Dublin to Lanzarote, which resulted in the aircraft being diverted. The airline is seeking €15,000 in damages.
The details of the incident on April 9 last year remain unclear, but Ryanair described the behavior as “completely unacceptable.” The plane had to divert to Porto, causing all 160 passengers to spend the night in the Portuguese city instead of Lanzarote. Ryanair demands the disruptive passenger reimburse the additional costs incurred by the other passengers.
Under European law, passengers are entitled to compensation if a flight within the EU is canceled or delayed by three hours or more. If an overnight stay is required, the airline must cover the cost.
Ryanair intends to recover these expenses from the passenger involved.
