The request for recusal by Ridouan Taghi’s lawyers has been denied. Consequently, new judges will not be appointed in the appeal case against the main suspect in the Marengo trial.
The recusal chamber found no grounds for the request. Taghi’s new lawyers, Vito Shukrula and Carlo Crince le Roy, sought recusal of the Amsterdam court, claiming the judges showed bias.
They requested sixteen months to review the 83,316-page dossier, but this was denied. The substantive hearings are scheduled for later this year.
The lawyers stated during the recusal request that they would withdraw from the case if not granted additional time. It remains unclear whether they will follow through.
They plan to discuss their next steps with Taghi.
